Snow creates a bit of work for all home owners and can be real trouble for those who are not here full time.  Things to worry about – is the load on the roof too much?  is the load on the deck to much?  Is the ice under the snow so deep that it won’t melt until spring?

Many people want to only remove snow when they are planning to use the home.  The problem with this is ice buildup.  Once the ice is there – it is difficult to remove without the coorperation of mother nature.   Many deicer’s exist on the market and most are harmful to your driveways and walkways causing long term damage.   Sand or kitty litter are a couple of safer options when dealing with icy sidewalks.

Roofs and decks are built to withstand 2-3 feet of snow (2 of the heavy stuff).  If the snow gets any heavier then that it will need to be cleared.

Driving on snow packs it down, and makes it really hard to remove – best bet is to stay off the fresh stuff and get out the shovel, or pick up the phone and schedule removal.   If not, it will turn to ice and that will create even more problems.
